Farmland Dairies, the Wallington, N.J.-based retailer of milk products, has been awarded the 2008 Leadership in School Nutrition award by the National Dairy Council, the Rosemont, Ill.-based nutrition marketing company. Farmland Dairies will receive a $5,000 award in recognition of its work to promote school nutrition.
Eight high-poverty elementary and one middle school in Alabama have been awarded the Torchbearer Award from the Alabama State Department of Education. These schools will receive $15,000 each in recognition of their transformation into high-performing schools and for demonstrating excellent principal leadership. The recipients include the following:
Anna F. Booth Elementary, Mobile County Public School System; E.D. Nixon Elementary, Montgomery County Public School System; Edgewood Elementary, Selma City Public School System; George Hall Elementary, Mobile County Public School System; Indian Springs Elementary, Mobile County Public School System; Lincoln Elementary, Huntsville City School System; Mary W. Burroughs Elementary, Mobile County Public School System; North Birmingham Elementary, Birmingham City Public School System.
