He became interim president in May, when CAEP ousted founding President James G. Cibulka.

Koch is a former Illinois state schools superintendent.

Emily Kirkpatrick, the vice president of the National Center for Families Learning, has been named the executive director of the National Council of Teachers of English. She takes up the post in mid-November.

She succeeds Kent D. Williamson, who died in June after a long illness.

Kirkpatrick created Wonderopolis, a website that posts daily queries about the world to help students engage with informational texts.

He was appointed to lead the Texas Education Agency in 2012.
