Hawaii's Kamehameha Schools to Introduce 'Virtual' Merit Pay

Comments The Kamehameha Schools in Hawaii will begin experimenting this coming fall with a merit-based-pay program for teachers and administrators, with the aim of eventually adopting the system at all its campuses.
The pilot program will ultimately reward teachers through incentives and pay increases. But first, it will be use “virtual pay.” Participants will see simulations of changes that may occur to their pay through a virtual system, which will allow the private school to work out any kinks during the test.
Schools Vice President Rod Chamberlain said teachers once had to wait 25 years to earn top pay. He said many potential new teachers are unwilling to wait that long.
