Voc. Ed., Finance Officials Confirmed by Senate

Troy R. Justesen has been confirmed by the Senate as the Department of Education’s assistant secretary for vocational and adult education.

Mr. Justesen, 37, was confirmed by unanimous consent on July 26. A native of Utah, he most recently served as the department’s deputy assistant secretary for special education and rehabilitative services. He has also worked as an associate director for the Domestic Policy Council at the White House under President Bush. He was nominated to the vocational education position by President Bush in May.

The job had been held on an interim basis by Beto Gonzalez, a former college dean and public-affairs official at the Department of Labor. Prior to that, the post was held by Susan K. Sclafani, who resigned in September 2005.

In another personnel move, the Senate on July 27 confirmed the nomination, also by unanimous consent, of Lawrence A. Warder as the Education Department’s chief financial officer.

Mr. Warder, who was nominated for the position in late April, is replacing Jack Martin, who left in December.

Mr. Warder previously worked as global director of operations for Deloitte Consulting.
