KIPP Charters Outperform Comparable Public Schools, Report Says
Students who attend five charter schools in the San Francisco Bay area that are run by the Knowledge Is Power Program, or KIPP, score consistently higher on standardized tests than their peers from comparable public schools, an independent evaluation of the schools concludes.
The evaluation—conducted by Menlo, Calif.-based SRI International’s Center for Education Policy—was launched in October 2004. The findings in the report are from the first year of a three-year evaluation of KIPP schools in the Bay area.
