District officials in Columbus, Ohio, have moved to fire the principal of a high school where several male students allegedly took part in the sexual assault of a developmentally disabled female student last month.
Police are investigating the March 9 incident, in which the 16-year-old victim allegedly was coaxed into the auditorium at Mifflin High School and coerced to perform oral sex on one or more boys while another student videotaped the assault.
After completing their own investigation of the school’s response to the alleged crime, leaders of the 64,000-student district began termination proceedings against Principal Regina B. Crenshaw. Three assistant principals at the school have been suspended without pay.
Statements by staff members at the school, collected during the district’s probe, suggested that administrators may have discouraged the victim’s father from immediately notifying police. No one had been charged in the incident as of late last week.
Ms. Crenshaw could not be reached for comment.
