A research brief recently released by the National Institute of Justice shows that while 93 percent of public schools do an adequate job communicating student-discipline rules and policies and documenting disciplinary actions, only 48 percent do an adequate job practicing consistent discipline.

The National Institute of Justice, an arm of the U.S. Department of Justice, also found that student discipline appears to be more of a problem at middle schools than high schools or elementary schools.
