Report Roundup
Teacher Attrition
From the 1999-2000 to the 2000-01 school year, 85 percent of all public school teachers remained at the same school, 8 percent moved to a different school, and 7 percent left the teaching profession, according to a report from the National Center for Education Statistics.
The report shows that private school teachers were almost twice as likely to leave the profession—13 percent did so over that time period—as their public school counterparts. Public and private school teachers with less than 10 years’ experience were more likely to move to different schools during those school years than their more experienced colleagues.
