The People in the News column in the June 20, 2001, issue of Education Week gave the wrong founding date for the Council for Basic Education. The council was founded in 1956.
An article in the same issue about the Elementary and Secondary Education Act incorrectly reported how many Senate Republicans opposed an amendment to create a pilot voucher program. Eleven GOP senators voted against it.
