Where To Find Out More About Dropouts
Some of the newer studies on dropouts and on students earning General Educational Development certificates include:
- " Dropout Rates in America: How Severe Is the Problem?," 14 papers prepared by leading researchers for a Jan. 13 conference on dropouts organized jointly by the Harvard University Civil Rights Project and Achieve Inc.
- "Dropout Study: A Report to the 77th Texas Legislature," a legislatively mandated study of Texas' dropout-reporting methods, is available from the Texas Legislative Budget Board, the State Auditor's Office, and the Texas Education Agency. The study was published December 2000. (Requires Adobe's Acrobat Reader.)
- "Estimating the Labor Market Signaling Value of the GED," a study by John H. Tyler, Richard J. Murnane, and John B. Willett, published last May in the Quarterly Journal of Economics, Vol. 115, Issue 2, pages 431-468.
