Gary H. Quehl has resigned as president of the Washington-based Council for Advancement and Support of Education.
Mr. Quehl has headed the organization, which includes college and private-school officials involved in institutional advancement, since 1986. Previously, he served as president of the Council of Independent Colleges for 12 years.
Following his departure, slated for June 30, Mr. Quehl plans to move to California.
Former Virginia Secretary of Education John T. Casteen 3rd has been appointed president of the University of Virginia, his alma mater.
Mr. Casteen, 46, has been president of the University of Connecticut since 1985. He served as education secretary in the Old Dominion from 1982 to 1985.
He begins his new job Aug. 1.
