The Southern Regional Education Board last week issued three reports outlining steps its 15 member states should take to elevate their students’ educational performance to national levels by the year 2000.
“Funding Schools and Colleges to Reach Educational Goals,” “Reaching the Goal of Readiness for School,” and “Reaching the Goal of Readiness for College” were issued at the organization’s annual meeting in6Palm Beach, Fla.
They constitute the first of a series of reports designed to guide states in achieving 12 objectives contained in “Goals for Education: Challenge 2000,” which the organization released last fall. (See Education Week, Oct. 26, 1988.)
At the same meeting, the n.c.n.b. Corporation announced a $2-million donation to sreb to support school-improvement efforts. The money will be used to establish a leadership academy for school officials and to help develop model educational programs.
Copies of the reports are available for $5 each from the sreb, 592 10th St., N.W., Atlanta, Ga. 30318.
