The Oregon State Board of Higher Education has set new requirements for admission into all of the state’s seven four-year public colleges and universities. (See Education Week, June 1, 1983.)

The requirements, which go into effect in the fall of 1985, include: four years of English (with emphasis on composition and literature); three years of mathematics (including algebra, geometry, and a third more-advanced course); two years of science (including a year each in fields such as biology, chemistry, or physics); three years of social studies (including American history and government, global studies, and government); and two years of “other college-prep” courses, with a foreign language recommended.
