After investigators turned up evidence cheating on state tests led by teachers and administrators in the 48,000-student Atlanta district, some started wondering if the school system’s strong scores (compared to other urban districts) on the National Assessment of Educational Progress could also be due to cheating.
Department officials say that’s unlikely,and gave a presentation today about the process they use to protect tests at a meeting of the National Assessment Governing Board, which oversees the NAEP.
