Texas recently passed new requirements for high school graduation. They were intended to provide more wiggle room in students’ schedules so they could better prepare for college or other postsecondary programs.
But now some folks are concerned that the rules could backfire by allowing students to earn diplomas by loading up on lightweight electives.
The author of the legislation says he never imagined that students would consider such an option. That was apparently enough of a cue for the state school board, which is reportedly going to take a look at the situation soon.
