Teaching Strategies Inc., the Washington-based early-childhood-education company that publishes the widely used Creative Curriculum program, has acquired MindNurture, a Hillsborough, N.C.-based publisher of educational materials used in home-visiting programs. Such programs help parents learn how to engage in educational activities with their children.

MindNurture’s leading product is LearningGames, first used in the 1970s by the Abecedarian Project.

LearningGames focuses on developing language in children from birth through age 5 and promotes parents’ understanding of their children’s development, as well as their participation in early-childhood education.

“Teaching Strategies’ curriculum materials take a very similar approach to that used in the Abecedarian classrooms,” Joseph Sparling, a co-founder of MindNurture, said in a press release last month. “I think this partnership will result in the advancement of the early-childhood field.”

More information on both programs is available at www.teachingstrategies.com.
