Four years after the Allen Independent district in Texas opened its $60 million multisport stadium, voters in McKinney, Texas, ensured yet another multimillion-dollar facility will be coming to the Lone Star State.
Voters this month approved a $220 million bond proposal for the McKinney Independent district that contains $50.3 million in funding for a new 12,000-seat stadium, according to local media. Coupled with an additional $12.5 million left over from a previously passed bond, the overall cost of the facility is expected to reach nearly $63 million.
The stadium’s projected price tag would make it the most expensive high school football stadium ever built. McKinney residents can now only hope the stadium’s construction process goes more smoothly than the one in Allen. Less than two years after opening its stadium, the Allen district was forced to shutter it indefinitely because of “extensive cracking” found “in the concrete of the stadium’s concourse.”
