The Michigan Senate last week voted to allow the state to resume spending on the Common Core State Standards. It officially froze spending on the standards and their associated assessments on Oct. 1.
A similar measure passed by the House will have to go back to that chamber because of several modest differences. The resolution, however, does not need the approval of Gov. Rick Snyder, a Republican who supports the standards.
The legislature has not committed to using any of the tests being developed by the state assessment consortia.
