Recent appointments have changed the roster of the top state education leaders. The following is a current list of appointed and elected schools chiefs.

* Delaware is seeking a successor to Mr. Forgione, who has been appointed to a federal post; in North Carolina, Bob Ethridge is the elected schools chief, but Mr. Thompson is fulfilling the duties of the post due to a change in law. In Vermont, Mr. Walker is the interim chief. And in Virginia, Mr. Bosher announced last week that he is resigning.
