Reading about the latest startup by Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg got me thinking.

When you think of the current debates about education policy—including in the areas of common core, teacher evaluations, school turnarounds, and school choice—who do you think are key players? (Even if you don’t agree with them!) Who has the ability to really shape policies and rhetoric? It seems like Arne Duncan and Diane Ravitch are shoo-ins for this list, right? And leaders of the major foundations, like Gates, too?

What about former District of Columbia Public Schools Chancellor Michelle Rhee? How about Stanford’s Linda Darling-Hammond or NYU’s Pedro Noguera? Are the NEA’s Dennis Van Roekel and AFT’s Randi Weingarten, as union leaders, on the list? Will Zuckerberg, who has just announced that he’s started FWD.us to help shape immigration and education policy, become a key player?
