Another Governor’s Race Goes Republican: Alabama

Republican Robert Bentley has defeated Democrat Ron Sparks in the Alabama governor’s race, the AP tells us. Sparks had favored creating a lottery to generate money for education, but Bentley said voters should get a chance to decide on it.

Followers of the governor’s race will recall the recent political intrigue in that contest, when a newspaper reported that Bentley had worked behind the scenes to secure support from the state’s largest teachers’ union, to defeat his GOP primary opponent. In the end, Alabama voters didn’t seem to mind.
