Parallel Lines: A Speaking & Listening Strategy (Video)

Jessica Hegg, a dual language teacher at Banting Elementary in Waukesha, Wisc., engages her 5th grade class in an innovative lesson that helps students practice speaking and listening. The ‘Parallel Lines’ activity has students rotate in an inner and outer circle to share their writing and listen to another student’s. After listening to their partner’s sentences, students give a “glow and grow"—something that was done well and something that can be improved.
