A report says schools serving students in middle-class families are underperforming, with an average of one in four of their students going on to earn a college degree by age 26.
Published by Third Way, a Washington think tank, the study focuses on schools where 26 percent to 75 percent of students qualify for federally subsidized meals.
It notes that those schools educate more than half the nation’s schoolchildren but spend less per pupil on average and have larger classes than schools with poorer and wealthier enrollments.
