The ACT and the SAT: Scores in Recent Years

Shown below are the ACT average scores and SAT math and verbal averages over five years. The ACT comprises four separate tests: math, English, reading, and science. The SAT I tests students in two areas: math and verbal ability.

Both the ACT and the SAT figures represent academic-year testing cycles. Scores for 2003, for instance, are for the 2002-2003 cycle. The highest possible composite score on the ACT is 36; the scoring range on each section of the SAT is 200-800.
