A white Louisiana principal accused by some black parents of physically and mentally abusing their children will be transferred.

The Morehouse Parish school board voted last month to grant Dale Bishop her request to leave Bonita Elementary School, where she had been principal for five years. She has been assigned to work as the program-improvement coordinator for the board.

Ms. Bishop, who is white, was the subject of a protracted boycott during the 1992-93 school year by black parents who accused her of treating their children differently because of their race. The school board denied a request by the parents to remove her as principal. (See Education Week, Dec. 16, 1992.)

A lawsuit filed by the parents against the school system is scheduled for a hearing this month.
