A school district in Alabama must deduct funds for union political activities from the paychecks of teachers who wish to make contributions, a county judge has ruled in Alabama.
The Muscle Shoals City Board of Education and the Alabama Right to Work Committee, an anti-union organization based in Dothan, had filed suit last year against the Alabama Education Association and the Muscle Shoals local, claiming that the use of school personnel to process the deduction of teachers’ contributions for the union’s political activities was an unconstitutional use of public funds.
