The School Reform Commission that governs the Philadelphia public schools voted 3-2 last week to extend the contract of Chief Executive Officer Paul G. Vallas by three years. Mr. Vallas, who has managed the 200,000-student district for four years, will be paid $275,000 a year, up from $250,000 under his old contract, and will be eligible for performance bonuses and a “retention bonus” for each year he completes under the contract.
