The United Nations has developed a new Web site designed to help students learn more about global poverty and efforts to eliminate it.
View the Millennium Development Goals Web site, from the U.N.'s Cyberschools project.
The site is oriented around the Millennium Development Goals, a set of eight U.N. initiatives aimed at ending extreme poverty in the world by 2015. It includes background and updates on each of the poverty-fighting goals, as well as examples of how students can get involved.
Children can also monitor the progress of each of the goals by use of an interactive world map and submit their own essays and videos about related experiences and projects.
The site is available in both html (for low-bandwidth) and Flash versions.
