“We the People: Asians in the United States” is available online from the U.S. Census Bureau. ()

The U.S. Census Bureau recently released a comprehensive look at the Asian population in the United States, including key statistics about education and language preferences. The report shows that 44 percent of Asian adults in this country hold a bachelor’s degree or higher, compared with 24 percent of the general adult population. The bureau also found that roughly 80 percent of Asian families in the United States speak a language other than English at home.

According to the Census Bureau, Asian is defined as “people having origins in any of the original peoples of the Far East, Southeast Asia, or the Indian subcontinent.”
