Most American adults think parents don’t push their children hard enough to do better in school, a survey suggests.
The survey, conducted by the Washington-based Pew Research Center, found that 56 percent of adults believe that parents are putting too little pressure on their children to work harder; 15 percent feel they are placing too much pressure; and 24 percent think they are exerting the right amount.
Those opinions generally hold across gender, race, age, and income differences, as well as for parents and nonparents. In contrast, a majority of respondents surveyed in China, India, and Japan said they thought children faced too much pressure from parents.
