Tommy Bice, Alabama’s schools chief, has announced his resignation, effective April 1.
Bice will become the education director for the Birmingham-based Mike and Gillian Goodrich Foundation.
Named state chief in 2011, he helped lead the state in increasing its graduation rate and adopting a strategic plan. He also opposed legislators’ attempts to toss the state’s Common Core State Standards and allow parents to use tax credits to send their children to private schools—efforts that have so far failed.
