Mark Bedell, an assistant superintendent for the Baltimore County, Md., district, has been chosen as the superintendent of the Kansas City, Mo., school system.

Bedell worked for 12 years in the Houston district as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and school improvement officer.

He will lead a provisionally accredited district with about 14,000 students that is working toward regaining full state accreditation.

Lisa Robb, a former executive director of the New York State Council on the Arts, will become the executive director of the Center for Arts Education this month.

She previously held positions at artists’ studios and commercial galleries, Modern Photography magazine, the Ansel Adams Center, Bronx Museum, and Pelham Art Center.
