The suicide rates of juveniles ages 7 to 17 increased from the early to the late 1980s, and then remained relatively consistant for most of the 1990s, in contrast to juvenile-homicide trends. Between 1981 and 1994, suicides increased 44 percent, while homicides rose 82 percent.
