Randy C. Jensen, meanwhile, has been named the 2005 National Middle Level Principal of the Year.
Mr. Jensen, 43, has been the principal of the 400-student William Thomas Middle School in American Falls, Idaho, since 1989.
Recognized for his success in improving student achievement, Mr. Jensen implemented a stronger reading curriculum, hired a reading coach, and expanded reading and mathematics classes for struggling students.
Those changes resulted in significant improvements in 8th grade math and reading achievement levels at the school.
At the Oct. 8 banquet, Mr. Jensen will also receive $5,000 for his award, which has the same sponsors as the high school award.
