David Cleary has been named the staff director of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee’s Subcommittee on Education and Early Childhood Development by Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., the subcommittee’s chairman.

Mr. Cleary, 32, was most recently the director of policy and research for the new Commission on No Child Left Behind at the Washington-based Aspen Institute. He has also served as a Republican staff member for the House Education and the Workforce Committee, and as a legislative analyst for the Department of Education. He assumed the Senate subcommittee post on Feb. 6, succeeding Christine Dodd.

Sen. Alexander’s subcommittee is expected to play a key role in the reauthorization of the No Child Left Behind Act, scheduled for next year.
