Sandra Lawrence, the principal of Robert Lucas Elementary School in Iowa City, Iowa, has been chosen president-elect of the National Association of Elementary School Principals.
Ms. Lawrence will assume the duties of president of the 26,000-member group in July 1993.
Linda Darling-Hammond, the educator and researcher who was scheduled to leave Columbia University’s Teachers College to become dean of the Harvard University Graduate School of Education, has decided not to take the job.
In an announcement in June, Ms. Darling-Hammond cited personal reasons for declining the appointment and remaining at Columbia.
Harvard has begun a search for a new dean.
