The Chicago Board of Education last week unanimously approved the appointment of Manford T. Mr. Byrd, deputy superintendent for systemwide reorganization and a career employee of the school dis-trict, is scheduled to take office March 25, when the contract of the current superintendent, Ruth B. Love, expires.
Prior to his appointment, Mr. Byrd had been considered for the superintendency twice and passed over both times.
Details of Mr. Byrd’s contract, such as his salary and the length of his contract, have not been released by the school board. Ms. Love currently is paid $120,000.
