Robert Messina Jr.

Robert Messina Jr., the president of Burlington County College in Pemberton, N.J., has been elected a trustee of the College Board for a four-year term, effective Jan. 3.

The 31-member board of trustees oversees activities of the New York City-based nonprofit organization, which researches issues of equity and helps in the transition from secondary school to college.

Mr. Messina, 51, has spent 30 years in education as a professor, administrator, and researcher.

Richard Allington

The University of Florida has appointed Richard Allington to the Fien professorship in elementary and special education.

The $1.02 million endowed professorship was awarded to the university by Irving and Rose Fien, with state matching funds to advance programs aimed at helping at-risk children.

Mr. Allington is the author of more than 100 research articles and several books.

Joseph E. Early has accepted the position of chief academic officer and board vice chairman of Kentucky’s Education Professional Standards Board, a division of the state board of education.

Created in 1990, the standards board governs teacher preparation and licensure in the state. Mr. Early, 60, has worked for the Cumberland College education department for 30 years and served as the dean of the program for the past 20.

John Kelly

AutoSkill International Inc., a publisher of software intervention programs for reading improvement, has appointed John Kelly chairman of the board of the Ottawa, Ontario-based company.

Mr. Kelly, 59, has 30 years’ experience in the development and growth of high-tech companies.
