District. Private. Charter. I’ve worked in all three sectors, and have never favored one over another. In fact, when a few colleagues gave me a hard time for accepting a charter school position after 13 years in the Chicago Public Schools, I replied, “I’m not pro-charter. I’m pro-child.”
All I cared about then and all I care about now is whether a school’s leaders and staff are committed to doing their best for children. And now, seven years after leaving CPS, I’ve had the privilege of connecting and collaborating with earnest educators from different types of schools but with the same commitment to serving children.
I look forward to being among many such educators this coming week at the National Charter Schools Conference in Washington D.C. I also look forward to co-facilitating a presentation on instructional coaching with Angela Smith of Esperanza Academy Charter School, Tuesday, July 2 at 2:15 pm. Join us!
And join me in celebrating and supporting school leaders, staff, and students in all schools.
