“The Abbott Preschool Program Longitudinal Effects Study” is posted by the National Institute for Early Education Research.

At least through the end of kindergarten, children who attend New Jersey’s so-called Abbott preschools make significant gains in language, literacy, and math, a longitudinal study of the court-mandated program says, and children who attend for two years outperform those who attend for just one year.

Conducted by researchers at the National Institute for Early Education Research, at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J., the study also found that classroom quality in the program has improved since it began in the 1999-2000 school year as a result of a school finance case. While there were some differences in quality between public school sites and private preschool providers, the differences were minor, the report says.
