MaryEllen Elia will become the superintendent of the Hillsborough County, Fla., school district, which includes Tampa, on June 30. She replaces retiring Superintendent Earl J. Lennard.

Ms. Elia, 56, began her career with the district in 1986. She is the 174,500-student district’s chief facilities officer, and previously served as the general director of secondary education and the director of nontraditional programs.
