Francis “Skip” Fennell is the new president-elect of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. He will begin a two-year term as the organization’s president in April of next year.
Mr. Fennell, 60, is a professor of education at McDaniel College in Westminster, Md. He is a former program officer in the division of elementary, secondary, and informal education at the National Science Foundation in Arlington, Va. He also served as a senior staff officer for the Mathematical Sciences Education Board, a division of the Washington-based National Academies.
The NCTM, based in Reston, Va., has 100,000 members.
