“A National Consideration of Digital Equity” is available from the International Society for Technology in Education.

Attaining digital equity, or equal access to technology for all students, is a critical step in preparing students for the global workforce and closing achievement gaps, concludes a study published by the Washington-based International Society for Technology in Education.

Legitimizing the role culture plays in a student’s education, challenging the perceptions of the role of technology in classrooms, emphasizing the link between technology and professional development, opening opportunities for students to access technology outside the classroom, and seeking funding for technology education are ways to reach that goal, says the report. The report is an overview of the ISTE’s 2006 National Educational Computing Conference.
