TEACHER FELLOWSHIPS, CONTESTS, AND AWARDS

July 31— Economics: Applications are due for the Nasdaq National Teaching Awards Program from the National Council on Economic Education. The awards recognize high school teachers who advance economic literacy in the classroom, particularly in areas such as market economy, personal finance, and the investment process. The competition is open to high school teachers nationwide who incorporate economic education into their lesson plans, regardless of subject area. Twenty regional semifinalists will each receive a $1,000 cash award, five regional winners will each receive a $10,000 cash award, and the grand prize winner will be given a $25,000 cash award. August 11—Teachers: Applications are due for proposals for the 2004 Hawaii International Conference on Education. Research papers, abstracts, panel discussions and workshops from a variety of areas in education are eligible for submission, including academic advising, art education, business education, curriculum development, distance education, early childhood, technology, health, kinesiology, music, science, and cross-disciplinary education. Sept. 1—Special education: Applications are due for the McMurray ARTS Center and Autism Arts Conference Connection Contest. Teaching professionals, parents, school psychologists, and researchers are asked to submit essays in three categories concerning the value of education conferences. The winner will receive an all-expense paid trip to the conference of their choice.
