A story about California’s teacher-certification rules in the Sept. 4, 2002, issue of Education Week (“California Definitions of Qualified Teachers Rejected by Ed. Dept.”) incorrectly stated that the state requires only a bachelor’s degree for secondary teachers. California also requires secondary teachers to demonstrate subject-matter competence in the subjects they are teaching.
A listing in the Grants section of the Oct. 2 issue (“Grants”) incorrectly identified Yamileth S. Ildefonso, the recipient of a $15,000 Lindback Foundation grant. She is a professor of languages at Camden County College in Blackwood, N.J.
