A story about research on mayoral takeovers of school districts in the Sept. 11, 2001, issue of Education Week (“Big-City Mayors’ Control of Schools Yields Mixed Results,”) should have noted that the lack of test-score improvements researchers found for the Lawrence, Mass., district were limited to the years of the study, which were the 1997-98 and 1998-99 school years.
Text accompanying a chart on school segregation (“Rising Concern,”) in the Sept. 11 issue incorrectly described the data. It should have said that the figures showed states’ levels of black-white school segregation in 1990 and 2000.
