The Joan Ganz Cooney Center at Sesame Workshop announced last fall that they would give prizes for innovations in children’s media, as I wrote about in this Edweek piece. This week, the center made it official, opening up the competition for applicants for some $60,000 in prizes. Most of that money--$50,000--will be awarded to a mobile learning project for elementary school students, with the rest going to a program for students ages 6 to 9 that builds on the resources of The Electric Company television program.

The new prizes join the center’s STEM Video Game Challenge, which was launched last fall as part of President Obama’s “Educate to Innovate” initiative.

The center has more details about the prizes and the application process on its Web site.
