Most Americans believe that schools are not doing an adequate job of preparing students to be active and engaged citizens, a new survey concludes.
“From Classroom to Citizen: American Attitudes on Civic Education” is scheduled to be available online in the near future from the Campaign for the Civic Mission of Schools.
The survey of 1,200 adults—commissioned by the Washington-based Campaign for the Civic Mission of Schools and the Calabasas, Calif.-based Alliance for Representative Democracy—found that more than half the respondents gave schools a grade of C on their teaching of civics, and that about one-fourth gave a D or F.
