The Cincinnati school district has received a five-year, $20 million grant from the GE Foundation to prepare students to enter college by improving their scores in mathematics and science. The grant, the largest ever given to the 35,000-student district, will support a comprehensive collaboration by the district, businesses, and the community to close achievement gaps and help students enter higher education. The College Bound program, launched by the General Electric Co.’s foundation in 1989, was initially focused on 20 high schools, but has been redesigned to focus on school districts’ role in boosting student achievement.
