Taking Religion Seriously Across the Curriculum, by Warren A. Nord and Charles C. Haynes (Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, 1703 N. Charts a middle course in the culture wars over religion and public education by outlining the civic, constitutional, and educational frameworks that the authors believe should shape the treatment of religion in the curriculum and classroom.

Promising Practices: How Communities Across America Are Working To Meet National Education Goals 2000, by Ernest W. Brewer and Connie Hollingsworth (Holcomb Hathaway, Publishers, 6207 N. Cattle Track Rd., Scottsdale, AZ 85250; 244 pp., $18.95 original paperback). Provides a historical look at the national education goals for 2000 and a glance at some of the programs around the country that have been implemented to achieve these goals.

Blueprints for Reform: Science, Mathematics, and Technology Education, by Project 2061 of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (Oxford University Press, 198 Madison Ave., New York, NY 10016-4314; 320 pp., $17.95 original paperback). Project 2061, the AAAS’s long-term reform initiative in K-12 science education, commissioned experts to report on a dozen areas of education, including equity, assessment, and teacher preparation. The book contains a guide to hundreds of resources, programs, and organizations related to each topic, as well as a companion Blueprints On-Line World Wide Web site at http://project2061.aaas.org.

United in Diversity: Using Multicultural Young Adult Literature in the Classroom, edited by Jean E. Brown and Elaine C. Stephens (National Council of Teachers of English, 1111 W. Kenyon Rd., Urbana, IL 61801-1096; 221 pp., $22.95 original paperback, list price; NCTE member price $16.95). Part of the Classroom Practices in Teaching English series, this book contains contemplative essays on multicultural young-adult literature by award-winning young-adult writers, practical ideas from educators, and a resource section describing more than 200 literary works and 50 reference tools for teachers.
